For Students

Vocareum's Azure Cloud Labs give you direct access to a real Azure account and console in a secure sandbox environment. When you use Azure in Vocareum, budgets and guardrails protect you from accidental cloud overspend so you can focus on learning.

If Azure resources are available in your Vocareum assignment, a cloud icon containing the word "Azure" will appear in the left side menu of your lab.

Launching an Azure Lab

  1. Click the Azure Cloud icon on the left side menu of your lab.

  2. In the Azure panel that appears, click the Start Lab button.

  3. Copy the Name provided in the Azure panel. The Name will be a temporary email address with the domain onmicrosoft.com.

  4. Click the Launch Console button to open the Azure console in a new tab.

  5. In the new tab, paste the Name you copied from your Vocareum lab into the Email field of the Microsoft Azure sign in form.

  6. Click the Next button on the Azure sign in form.

  7. Return to your Vocareum lab and copy the Password provided in the Azure panel.

  8. Back on the Azure Console tab, paste the Password you copied from Vocareum into the Password field of the Microsoft Azure form.

  9. Click the Sign in button on the Microsoft Azure form.

  10. You may be asked in the Azure form whether you would like to stay signed in. You can select No or Yes depending on your personal preference.

  11. Often, the first time you log into a new account, Azure will display a welcome screen. You can click the X button in the upper-right corner to skip the introduction.

From there, the Azure Console will open and you will be logged in as the temporary user provisioned for your assignment.

Azure Mutlifactor Authentication

Depending on your organization's Azure settings, you may be prompted to set up Multifactor Authentication (MFA) after entering your Azure password. If MFA is required, the Azure login form you accessed via the Launch Console button in Vocareum will guide you through the process.

You may see a Portal MFA Enforcement pop-up like the following image after entering your password:

Microsoft provides several options for MFA. When setting up MFA for a Vocareum-provided Azure account, we recommend using an authenticator app on your mobile phone. An authenticator app has two benefits:

  • It does not require you to receive email messages. (You will not have access to the inbox for the temporary email address created for your Azure account.)

  • You will not have to associate your personal phone number with the temporary Azure account.

To set up MFA for the Azure account provided through your Vocareum lab:

  1. Click the Next button on the introductory screen titled "Let's keep your account secure."

  2. Download Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile phone, then click the Next button.

  3. In the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone, click the plus button to add an account, then select the account option labeled "Work or school."

  4. The app will ask you whether you want to "Sign in" or "Scan QR Code." Select Scan QR code.

  5. Back on your computer, click the Next button on the Set up your account screen.

  6. Microsoft will display a QR code on your computer. Scan this code with your phone using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

  7. Once the account is added, click the Next button in the Azure form on your computer.

  8. The Azure form will display a number on your computer. At the same time, the Microsoft Authenticator app will prompt you to enter the number on your phone. Enter the number in the app as directed.

  9. If the authentication is successful, you will receive a "Notification approved" message on your computer. Click the Next button.

  10. Finally, you will receive a Success message. Click the Done button.

MFA is now set up for the Azure account associated with your Vocareum assignment. You will be redirected to the Azure console.
