For Students
As a newcomer to Vocareum, this article aims to be your guide to navigating the platform. Covering everything from the initial registration and login process to effectively submitting assignments and monitoring your grades, you'll find step-by-step instructions and helpful tips to enhance your experience.
Registration
Depending on the course, students will access Vocareum either directly or through an integration with your course's learning management system (LMS), like Canvas, Blackboard and edX.
If you are accessing assignments through LMS, you do not need an account on Vocareum -- all access is through the links in your LMS.
If you are enrolled into Vocareum by your instructor directly and you did not previously have an account on Vocareum, you should have received (or will receive) an email invitation to join Vocareum. Simply click on the link in the email and it will take you to the login page. If you don't have the email, please go to the login page, enter your email address and choose "forgot password". If you still do not see an email, please check your spam folder. If the email is not there, please contact your teacher or Vocareum through support@vocareum.com.
Your Course
Once you login, you can select "Classes" and it will take you to a page with your course and assignments.
When your teacher or TA publishes the course assignments, they become visible to you on the class page.
Note: If you are coming to Vocareum through your LMS, you will jump directly to the work space for that assignment.
Your Assignments
Select "My Work" which will take you to your assignment.

The 'work' folder is where you can access and work on files provided by your course team.
The 'voc' folder is 'read-only'. Meaning you can not edit any of the content within the voc folder like you can in the 'work' folder. The voc folder is typically used provide data or other relevant content.
Your Submissions and Grades
If your assignment is graded, you will submit your finished work using the 'Submit' button at the top left of your assignment.
Depending on how the course is setup, the 'Grades' panel will be populated with your current score and the rubric it is based on.
And the 'Grading Report' tab will bring up a window with more detailed overview of how your work was graded.
Grades, and grader comments, will also now appear on your dashboard under the specific Assignment.

If I exit out of my Vocareum assignment and come back will my work be saved?
Each lab environment can be persistent depending on the settings authored by your course team. We always recommend saving before closing your lab or submitting your work: ctrl+s (windows) or cmd+s (mac).
Some assignments will be designed to end or close submissions after a certain period of time. It is always best to check your curriccuulm and check with your course team to know what to expect for the assignments they create.
What does 'Reset' do?
In some labs you will see the a button titled 'Reset'. The function of a lab reset is to remove all of the content and resources currently present in your lab. And 'reset' to the original state of the lab. Only containing the content first present in the lab when you had first opened it. Please use caution and save any work you wish to keep to your local machine.
