LTI 1.3 Vocareum Course Configuration

Vocareum supports LTI 1.3 integration as a Tool Provider.

Configure LTI 1.3

  1. In order to allow a Vocareum course to be accessible through LTI 1.3, go to the Course Settings.

  2. Under the 'LTI Settings', toggle 'LTI' on. You will then be given a choice of LTI versions, in this case, select LTI version 1.3.

  3. There are a few other LTI specific settings available as well

    1. Show All Assignments - should be OFF if you want Vocareum to only show the assignment that the student clicked on in their LMS. If ON, students can navigate to other published assignments from their Vocareum window.

    2. Auto Create Sections - If set, the section to which the student is enrolled will be created automatically based on the LTI parameter 'lis_course_offering_sourcedid' which is SIS ID of the course.

    3. Send Total Score (Canvas) - relevant only for Canvas but if set to True, the total score will be sent to LMS instead of a number between 0.0 to 1.0.

  4. After selecting LTI version 1.3, and other options, please do a save.

  5. If Vocareum is already added by your organization admin on your LMS at the root level as the LTI 1.3 App, you can skip to the next step.

If this is the first time, you are using Vocareum, you can choose to setup Vocareum App for your own course rather than at the root level, please follow the instructions from the following article on how to setup Vocareum at the course level. This article uses Canvas as the LMS but the setup is very similar for all other LMS supporting LTI 1.3 integration.

The steps to add the issuer and deployment are the same when setting up Vocareum as LTI 1.3 app at the org level or course.

  6. Once set up on the LMS, the LTI links for each assignment will be located in their respective settings within the Vocareum course page. This link can be directly added on the LMS side when adding an assignment or content-item. Some LMS like Canvas supports directly the deep linking flow where you can import these links directly from the LMS.

Note: All assignments within an LTI 1.3 enabled course are automatically accessible through LTI 1.3. This can be changed by going to an assignment's settings page and selecting/deselecting the 'LTI' checkbox.
