Creating an Atlas Assignment

Learn how to add a Vocareum Atlas application to your course as an assignment, so students can open it, complete it, and receive scores and feedback.

This article explains how to create a Vocareum assignment that delivers an Atlas application to the students in your course.

An Atlas app is an interactive learning experience, such as a simulation, role-play, or guided lab. When you add an Atlas app to a course as an assignment, your students can open it from the course, or from your Learning Management System (LMS) if your course is connected to one. Each student works in their own copy of the app, and their results can be reviewed, graded, and sent back to your LMS gradebook.

Create an Atlas assignment when you have an Atlas app that is ready for students to use. If you have not built the app yet, build it first, and then return to this article.

Before you start, your course must be set up to use Generative AI (GenAI), and the Atlas app must be shared with your course. For details, refer to the Prerequisites section of this article.

Prerequisites

Complete the following tasks before you create an Atlas assignment:

  • Set up GenAI access for your course. Atlas apps use AI to power features such as AI personas, feedback, and scoring. Follow the steps in the AI for courses with Atlas assignments section of Configuring GenAI Access for Atlas.

  • Share the Atlas app with your course. An Atlas app must be shared with a course before you can add it to an assignment in that course. Follow the steps in the Share with a course section of Sharing an Atlas Application.

Creating an Assignment

Follow these steps to create an assignment and add your Atlas app to it:

  1. From your course page, select Edit Assignments.

  2. Select Add Assignment.

  3. Enter a name for the assignment, and then select Atlas as the lab type.

  4. From the Atlas App dropdown menu, select the Atlas app that was shared with the course.

  5. Select Add assignment. Vocareum creates the assignment and its first part.

  6. Select Configure lab to open the assignment and check that the app and admin dashboard work as you expect.

  7. Select Student View to open the assignment and review it as a student would.

  8. When the assignment is ready, publish it and make the assignment available to students.

After the assignment is available, students can open the Atlas app from your course. You can review any results, transcripts, and feedback reports you have enabled.
