For Admins
Vocareum Atlas uses an AI agent to build apps. Every Atlas building session spends a GenAI allowance. This article explains how to give the right people in your organization that allowance, so that app builders can create and edit apps.
You configure Atlas access with the same GenAI Gateway tools you use for other Vocareum AI features: resource policies, groups, and budgets. The only Atlas-specific requirement is that the policy includes an Atlas agent model.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, check that the following are in place:
GenAI and Atlas are turned on for your organization. Contact Vocareum Support to turn them on.
You are an organization admin. Only admins can create GenAI policies and groups.
You are familiar with the GenAI Gateway. This article uses GenAI policies, groups, and budgets. For background, refer to GenAI Gateway.
Granting access to the Atlas Control Center
Atlas appears as Atlas in the Control Center sidebar and opens to the My apps page.
What a person needs depends on whether they build apps or only use apps that others have shared with them.
For app builders
App builders are people who create apps or edit apps shared with them as an Editor. Building an app runs the Atlas agent, so every builder needs a personal GenAI allowance from a policy that includes an Atlas agent model. This applies to admins too: being an organization admin does not give you an allowance on its own.
The Atlas agent models are:

To give app builders access, complete the following steps:
Create a GenAI policy that includes at least one Atlas agent model, or use an existing one. For more information, refer to the Policies section of GenAI Gateway.
Create a group for your app builders and enable a GenAI resource on it with that policy. Every Atlas build session spends the builder's allowance, so set a per-user budget that covers the amount of building you expect. For the steps, refer to Using the Group Control Center For Resource Management.
Add builders to the group. You can add members by email or in bulk. To include every Teacher in your organization instead, set the group's Sharing option to Share to Atlas. Teachers are then added to the group automatically when they next open the Control Center.
Each member receives their allowance the next time they open any Control Center page. After that, the New app button on the My apps page is available to them.
To give a single person access without a group, you can instead create an individual User Key with a policy that includes an Atlas agent model. For the steps, refer to the Users section of GenAI Gateway.
If a person belongs to more than one GenAI group, Atlas uses the allowance from groups first and, among several, the one with the largest budget.
What builders see without access
If a builder does not have a suitable allowance, the My apps page displays a yellow banner titled "You cannot create apps" or "You cannot build with Atlas", and the New app button is unavailable. The banner explains what is missing:
"You do not have a personal GenAI allowance." The person is not in a GenAI group. Add them to one.
"Your GenAI allowance does not include an Atlas agent model." The person's group uses a policy without an Atlas agent model. Change the group's policy to one that includes an Atlas agent model.
People without an allowance can still copy and import apps, but they cannot build on them until they have one.
For app viewers
App viewers are people who only open and run apps that others have shared with them as a Viewer, or with the whole organization. Viewers do not need a GenAI allowance to find the Atlas item in the Control Center or to open a shared app. The Atlas item appears for them as soon as an app is shared with them or with their organization.
Admins and Teachers who share an app with a course do not need to give students an allowance through a group. Students get AI access through the course's own GenAI settings. For the steps to turn on GenAI for a course, refer to the Courses section of GenAI Gateway.
When a Teacher saves an Atlas assignment part, Vocareum turns on GenAI for that part automatically and connects it to the course's GenAI policy. Each part starts with these defaults, which Teachers can change in the part settings:
Budget per person: $10, or the course's GenAI budget if that is lower.
Session length: 240 minutes.
